Samuel Merritt University (formerly Samuel Merritt College) was originally established in 1909 as an institution of health sciences. This private institution is also referred to as SMU, and is located in Oakland, California, United States. Samuel Merritt University offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in areas such as nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and podiatry medicine.

Samuel Merritt University has a Student Body Association that organizes social and academic activities, events and other programs for the students. Financial aid is provided to the eligible students through various loans and scholarships.
