Tarleton State University is a public, coeducational, state university located in Stephenville, Texas. It was originally founded in 1899 as the John Tarleton Agricultural College and became a member of The Texas A&M University System in 1917. Tarleton State University became a four-year degree institution with the first class graduating in 1963. It offers a wide variety of degrees and programs in diverse areas of study. The university is organized into the following academic divisions:

Tarleton State University's athletics compete at the NCAA Division II level in the Lone Star Conference. Their men's and women's sports teams are known as the Texans and the TexAnns respectively.
