Launched in 2000, The Art Institute Online provides its students with career-oriented creative arts education combined with the schedule flexibility and convenience of online schooling. The school offers 27 fully online programs which award professional certificates and diplomas as well as associate and bachelor's degrees.
The Art Institute Online is a division of The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, an art and design school with a history of over 90 years of creative arts education. The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is accredited through the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, an accreditation agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Secretary of Education.
Points of Distinction
In addition to the normal academic and experiential qualifications, faculty members at the school are required to successfully complete a training course about the nuances of online instruction through the Socrates Distance Learning Technologies Group. Faculty members bring real-world experience to the virtual classroom, providing students with knowledge applicable to the needs of the job market.
Due to the nature of online education, there are no set class attendance times so students are free to design a schedule which meets the needs of their work and family lives. Students can expect to receive constant communication with their instructors through email, phone, video, and chat services. An online library which crawls over 350 databases is made available to students on demand. Additional tutoring and technical support is available for students who need it. The Art Institute Online also provides students with exclusive access to student organizations, industry-focused online seminars, and social networks. Upon completion of their studies, students may attend a graduation ceremony at any of The Art Institute locations around the country.
