The University of Massachusetts Medical School is located in Worcester, Massachusetts. The university was established in 1962 by an act of the Massachusetts Legislature. According to the U.S. News and World Report of 2006, UMMS ranked 4th in primary care education. The university offers a number of research programs, and undergraduate and graduate degree programs in diverse fields of medical science. The university has 3 academic schools:
Financial aid is provided to deserving students at UMMC. Institutional loans, gift aids and campus-based loans are awarded to students depending on their academic progress and enrollment status. There are many student groups and organizations at UMMC, including the Adolescent Medicine Interest Group, the Disability Interest Group, the Marrow for Tomorrow and the Physicians for Human Rights.
