Wayland Baptist University is a private, coeducational Baptist University located in Plainview, Texas. The university was chartered by the state of Texas, under the name 'Wayland Literary and Technical Institute,' on August 31, 1908. Wayland is one of the largest Southern Baptist universities in the U.S. The university is divided into the following divisions:

Wayland's athletic teams are nicknamed the Pioneers and members of the Sooner Athletic Conference. They compete at the Division I level of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
